Mevagissey House.Mevagissey House is a splendid former rectory standing in 3 acres of peaceful woodland gardens and is approached via a long tree-lined drive. The house was built in 1846 for the new vicar of Mevagissey, the Rev. Edward Carlyon, 19th in direct descent from Edward I, King of England. The holiday cottages have plenty of private off road parking and are situated on the edge of the village with views of Heligan in one direction and the coastline in the other. We have four traditional Cornish cottages set in the grounds of Mevagissey House, the Coach House, Goose Cottage, Glebe Cottage and Sea Thrift. Click on the links at the top of the page for further information. Interesting fact - 2 books from Susan Coopers 'The Dark is Rising' series are based in the village of Trewissick. Susan used to holiday in Mevagissey when she was a child, which is why she based Trewissick on Mevagissey. Mevagissey House is the vicarage from the first book 'Over Sea Under Stone' where Jane first meets the mysterious Mr Hastings. The other book featuring Trewissick is the Green Witch.
Plenty of off road private parking available for cars, boats, trailers etc.

Was it built by St. Mevei and St. Isy, the two Celtic saints who founded Mevagissey in the 14th Century, or is it from an even earlier time, when people worshipped water and other elemental forces. Mevagissey House is situated in an area named Lavorrick, which is the ancient name for Mevagissey and is mentioned in early histories of Cornwall. Many Holy Wells in Cornwall existed before Christianity arrived and were used in healing rituals, forecasting the future and fertility rites.
